For decades, "Mumbai airport" meant one thing: Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSIA) in Andheri. Now there are two. The new Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) in Ulwe has opened up, and every week our passengers ask the same thing: "which airport should I book my cab to?"
We drive to both, every day, from Pune and from all over Mumbai. Here is the honest, practical answer — no jargon, just what actually matters when you have a flight to catch.
First, Check Your Ticket — Not the Habit
This sounds obvious, but it is the single biggest mistake we see. People book a cab to CSIA out of habit, then realise at the last minute their flight is from NMIA (or the other way round). The two airports are about 40 km apart, and in Mumbai traffic that gap can mean a missed flight.
Your boarding pass or airline app clearly states the airport and terminal. Check it first. Then book the cab to that airport.
CSIA (Andheri) — The Established One
- Location: Andheri / Santacruz, central-western Mumbai
- Terminals: T1 (domestic, mostly IndiGo/older domestic) and T2 (international + several domestic)
- Best for you if: you live in or are staying in western/central Mumbai — Bandra, Andheri, Juhu, South Mumbai
CSIA is closer for most of "old Mumbai". But it is also surrounded by some of the city's worst traffic. Always leave early.
NMIA (Ulwe) — The New One
- Location: Ulwe, Navi Mumbai — near Panvel
- Best for you if: you are coming from Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Kharghar, or driving in from Pune on the expressway
Here is the big one for our Pune passengers: NMIA is dramatically closer to Pune than CSIA is. If you are flying out of Mumbai and can choose your airport, NMIA can save you 60–90 minutes of driving and a lot of city traffic.
Coming from Pune? NMIA Usually Wins
From Pune, NMIA is the first Mumbai airport you reach on the expressway — you do not have to drive deep into the city. For a lot of flights, choosing NMIA over CSIA turns a stressful 4.5-hour dash into a relaxed 3-hour drive.

- Bandra, Andheri, South Mumbai: CSIA is usually quicker
- Navi Mumbai, Panvel, Kharghar, Vashi: NMIA is far closer

How Much Time to Keep in Hand
For domestic flights, aim to reach 2 hours before departure; for international, 3 hours. Then add cab travel time on top:
- Within Mumbai to either airport: allow 60–90 minutes for traffic buffer
- Pune to NMIA: around 3 hours door-to-door
- Pune to CSIA: around 4–4.5 hours door-to-door
The Simple Rule
Check your ticket for the airport code. If it says NMIA and you are coming from Pune or Navi Mumbai, you have the easier trip. If it says CSIA, leave extra early for the city traffic. Either way, share your flight number when you book and we'll track it and adjust pickup time.
