Mumbai to Goa by road is one of India's classic drives — about 580 km of coastline, ghats, and Konkan countryside. Whether you pick the scenic coastal route or the faster inland highway, a cab lets you stop where you want, leave when you want, and arrive rested. Route Option 1: NH66 Coastal Road (Recommended for Scenery)
The NH66 route runs south through Panvel, Mahad, Chiplun, Ratnagiri, and into Goa via Sawantwadi. Total distance is about 580 km and takes 10-11 hours with stops.
This is the more scenic route — you cross the Sahyadri ghats near Kashedi and Amba, with coastal plains stretching beyond. The road quality has improved dramatically with new bypasses, though single-lane stretches remain between Chiplun and Ratnagiri.
Route Option 2: NH48 via Kolhapur (Faster)
The NH48 route takes the Pune Expressway connector, then heads south via Satara, Kolhapur, and enters Goa from the east at Anmod Ghat. About 610 km but often 9-10 hours because the four-lane highway is faster up to Kolhapur.
Better for passengers who want to minimise ghat driving — only the Anmod section is twisty.
Best Rest Stops
- Mahad (NH66) — 110 km from Mumbai. Good breakfast dhaba stop with clean restrooms.
- Chiplun (NH66) — 250 km mark. Multiple restaurants; try the Konkan thali.
- Karad / Kolhapur (NH48) — proper meal break with branded restaurants and fuel stations.
- Amboli Ghat (NH48) — brief stop for misty views if weather is clear.
Monsoon vs Dry Season
October–May: Both routes are smooth. NH66 gives you glimpses of the Arabian Sea near Ratnagiri. Best driving conditions overall.
June–September: The Konkan comes alive with waterfalls and green valleys, but heavy rain means reduced visibility on ghat sections. Kashedi Ghat on NH66 can get foggy. Our drivers carry extra caution on these stretches — plan an extra hour buffer during monsoon.

Tips from Our Drivers
- Leave Mumbai before 6 AM to clear city traffic and Panvel junction early.
- Carry light snacks — some NH66 stretches between towns have limited food options.
- If entering North Goa (Panaji, Calangute), NH66 is more direct. For South Goa (Margao, Palolem), NH48 via Kolhapur can be quicker.
