Distance and Drive Time
From Pune, Ganpatipule is about 330 km via the Mumbai–Goa highway (NH66). Expect 6–7 hours one way with a short break. The road is mostly good; the last stretch through Ratnagiri district is scenic but slower.

One Day or Two?
Honest answer: overnight is better. A same-day trip means 12+ hours in the car and only 2–3 hours at the beach. Most families leave Pune Friday night or Saturday dawn, stay one night, and return Sunday. That way you get proper darshan, beach time, and Konkani food without exhaustion.
What to Do There
- Ganpatipule temple: the idol faces west — unique among Ashtavinayak temples
- Beach: clean, swimmable in season; avoid monsoon high tide
- Jaigad Fort: 30 km north — worth it if you have a second half-day
- Malgund: birthplace of poet Kavi Keshavsut, near the beach
Best Season
October–March is ideal — clear skies, calm sea. Monsoon (Jun–Sep) is lush and green but beaches can be rough. Summer is hot but evenings on the beach are pleasant.
